WSC football announces 30 recruits to 2012 signing class

           Wayne State College head football coach Dan McLaughlin announced today that 30 student athletes have signed national letters of intent and/or written offers of admission and financial aid to attend Wayne State College and continue their football careers with the Wildcats. The 2012 recruiting class includes 28 high school recruits and two transfers. 14 of the 30 signees are from Nebraska, eight are from Iowa, three from Florida, two are from Washington, one from California, one from Illinois and one from Nevada. 17 of the 30 recruits are on the offensive side of the ball, 11 are defensive recruits and two special teams players. 
            Offensively, WSC signed six offensive lineman, four tight ends, three running backs, two wide receivers and two quarterbacks. Defensively, Wayne State brought in seven defensive lineman, three defensive backs and one line backer. Special teams added one kicker and one player who is listed as a kicker/punter.
            “We feel like it is a good class with a majority of the kids from Nebraska and Iowa,” remarked Coach McLaughlin “We feel we have a nice array of talent with a specific area of need being lineman and we feel like we have addressed that with nearly half of the class lineman. We are very pleased with this class and feel it is a great day for WSC football.”
            Wayne State finished the 2011 season with a 7-4 overall record, going 7-3 in the NSIC to finish in a tie for fifth place in the 14-team conference.  It was the fifth straight winning season for the Wildcats under seventh year head coach Dan McLaughlin.     

Nebraska signees

Tyler Basch                          Kicker/Punter                      6-0, 160                 Papillion, Nebraska (Papillion La Vista South High School)
Basch was an All-Metro and All-District selection during senior season and set a school record with a 76 yard punt. He was selected to play in this summer's Shrine Bowl and helped team to first ever playoff win this season. Basch was named MCAF Kicker of the Year and averaged 39.8 yards per punt during senior season.
Joey Bierman                      Defensive Back                   6-0, 180                 Battle Creek, Nebraska (Battle Creek HS)
Bierman is a multi-sport standout from Battle Creek High School starting four years in track, three years in football and two years in basketball. Earned All-Conference honors during junior season of football and was All-District and All-State honorable mention for the Omaha World Herald and Lincoln Journal Star during senior season. He was on a state playoff team all four years in football. During his senior season, Bierman recorded 27 receptions for 303 yards and six touchdowns while also rushing the ball 41 times for 394 yards and two touchdowns on offense while notching 36 unassisted tackles and 39 assisted tackles on defense. He was a state track triple jump qualifier and his 4x1 team took third place.
Shane Finley                        Offensive Lineman             6-5, 282                 Omaha, Nebraska (Roncalli Catholic HS)
Finley started three seasons on the offensive line at Roncalli Catholic High School and was a four year starter in track and one year in basketball. Finley was named All-State Class C-1 in 2011 as well as All-Area Omaha Class C-1. He was part of an offensive line that paved the way to the Nebraska state playoffs in 2009 where they qualified for the first round and in 2011 advanced to the second round.
Payton Hogan                      Offensive Lineman             6-3, 265                 Omaha, Nebraska (Omaha Central HS)
Hogan started two years on the offensive line and lettered three years at Omaha Central High School as he was named 2011 Omaha World Herald Class A All-State honorable mention and 2011 Omaha World Herald Class A Second Team All-Metro. In 2011, Hogan helped his team to a 10-2 overall record and advanced to the Class A state semifinals. His 2009 squad 4-5 and was a Class A district qualifier. Hogan was a two way starter during the 2011 season and was considered by his coach to be their best offensive lineman. Notched 22 tackles and recovered two fumbles on defense while defensive tackle and also played offensive guard.
Aaron Hughes                     Defensive End                     6-4, 215                 West Point, Nebraska (West Point-Beemer HS)
Hughes was a three year starter and letter winner in football, earning All-District honors during senior season. He was the team's leading tackler, outstanding lineman and most valuable player during senior season. Hughes was an All-Norfolk Daily News Area honorable mention selection.
Tyler Lindsay                       Kicker                                    5-9, 165                 Pierce, Nebraska (Pierce HS)
Lindsay started two years at kicker for Pierce High School where he received 2011 Associated Press honorable mention All-State, Omaha World Herald and Lincoln Journal Star honorable mention and honorable mention All-District. He was a member of the 2008 Nebraska Class C1 State Championship Pierce team and was also on the 2010 Nebraska Class C1 Runner up team. Lindsay's career long field goal is a 46 yarder. He was also a state qualifier in track all four years he competed in the 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles.
Taylor Jensen                     Offensive Lineman             6-4, 265                 Emerson, Nebraska (South Sioux City HS)
Jensen was a two year letter winner on the offensive line at South Sioux City High School and was named Academic All-Conference, All-State honorable mention and All-City in 2011. Jensen was also Academic All-Conference in track where he was a state qualifier in the discus and shot put in 2009, 2010 and 2011.
John McCaig                        Offensive Lineman             6-6, 280                 Blair, Nebraska (Blair HS)
McCaig started one year at offensive tackle at Blair High School and received All-District honorable mention in 2011. He was on three consecutive state football qualifiers from 2009-2011. In 2009 and 2010 Blair HS made it to the state semi-finals with a record of 10-2 both years while in 2011 they went 8-3 and made the state quarter-finals. McCaig's class finished with 28 wins which is the most wins by a class in school history.
Trevor Meader                    Linebacker                           6-4, 200                 Lincoln, Nebraska (Lincoln Southwest HS)
Meader started one year of both football and basketball at Lincoln Southwest and was a lettermen both of those seasons. He was also part of the 2011 district champions. Helped Lincoln Southwest to a 9-2 record on the season while advancing to the Class-A quarterfinals.
Ryan Porter                          Defensive Lineman            6-3, 265                 Brady, Nebraska (Brady HS)
Porter started all four years as an offensive and defensive lineman for Brady High School. During senior season he was awarded All-District honorable mention offensive lineman, All-State honorable mention and Telegraph All-Area offensive lineman in 2011. He also was selected to play in the upcoming Eight-Man All-Star game. In 2010 as a junior he was All-District honorable mention defensive lineman and offensive lineman in 2010. Porter played on state playoff qualifiers in 2009, 2010 and 2011 and the team advanced to the second round in 2010. During his senior season, Porter recorded 96 tackles, 11 sacks, three blocked kicks and two forced fumbles.
Bronson Stonacek             Tight End                               6-4, 200                 Pierce, Nebraska (Pierce HS)
Stonacek was a three year starter in football and track while also starting one season in basketball while at Pierce High School. He was All-State First Team in 2010 and 2011, All District in 2011, was a member of National Honor Society and was a district winner in track. Stonacek was a part of the 2008 state championship Pierce team and was also on the 2010 state runner up team. In his senior season, Stonacek hauled in 18 receptions for 323 yards and four touchdowns and career offensive totals of 33 catches for 557 yards and nine TDs. On the defensive side of the ball, he notched 35 solo tackles, 65 assisted tackles, three sacks, eight tackles for loss, six fumble recoveries and two interceptions in his career at Pierce.
Nathan Weatherby             Tight End                               6-3, 190                 Murray, Nebraska (Conestoga HS)
Weatherby was a multi-sport athlete at Conestoga High School as he started three years in football, basketball and track. He received honors in all three sports as he was honorable mention in 2009, Second Team defense in 2010 and Second Team offense in football in 2011, named Academic All-State in basketball in 2010 and was Academic All-State in 2009, 2010 state qualifier in the discus and state qualifier in 300 hurdles in 2011 track and field. Logan Weinandt                 Tight End/Defensive Line   6-5, 205                 Wynot, Nebraska (Hartington Cedar Catholic HS)
Weinandt started four years in track, three years in football and two years in basketball while at Hartington Cedar Catholic and accumulated a collection of individual awards. Weinandt was on the Academic Honor Roll seven of eight semesters, 2011 state track qualifier, 2009 Second Team All-District football, 2010 First Team All-District and team MVP, 2011 honorable mention Lincoln Journal Star, Omaha World Herald and Associated Press and 2012 honorable mention Lincoln Journal Star, Omaha World Herald and Associated Press. He was on four straight state football playoff teams (state runner up in 2009), and was on two state basketball qualifying teams. Career stats at Hartington CC are: 46 receptions for712 yards, 849 all purpose yards, 71 solo tackles, 100 assisted tackles and 18 sacks. He also rushed four times in 2011 for 66 yards (16.5 yards per carry).
Ehan Douglass-Wiley        Running Back                      6-2, 215                 Lincoln, Nebraska (Lincoln Southwest HS)
Douglass-Wiley was a two year starter at running back and three year starter in track while at Lincoln Southwest High School. He received All-Conference running back honors in 2011 and was also named All-State honorable mention running back. Douglass-Wiley was the starting back for Lincoln Southwest as they went 9-2 in the 2011 season while advancing to the Class-A quarterfinals and was on the 2011 district championship team.            

Out of state signees

Kyle Allen                              Defensive Lineman            6-7, 215                 Vancouver, Washington (Evergreen HS)
Allen was a four year starter in track while starting three seasons in both football and wrestling at Evergreen High School. Individual awards for Allen include: First Team All-Conference, MVP on defense, most outstanding player award and was a team captain. He averaged 9.5 tackles and 1.5 sacks per game.
Shawn Barker                     Defensive Lineman            6-0, 285                 Clearwater, Florida (Largo HS)
Barker has been a starter at Largo High School since his sophomore season and was First Team All-Conference, All-District and Pinella County All-Star. Helped lead his team to the state playoffs and were district champions in 2009, 2010 and 2011. During his senior season, Barker recorded 52 tackles and four sacks.
Jonathan Baxter                 Defensive Lineman            6-0, 270                 Dade City, Florida (Pasco  HS)
Baxter started four years on the defensive line for Pasco High School where his team went undefeated for two years in the regular season and advanced to the 2011 5A state semi-finals. During his career, Baxter averaged 7.5 tackles per game and 1 sack per game.
Tanner Bohling                    Running Back                      5-11, 195               Muscatine, Iowa (Muscatine HS)
Bohling started three seasons as a running back at Muscatine High School where he received Third Team All-State 4A by the Des Moines Register and the Iowa Newspaper Association, First Team All-Conference, All MAC Academic Team, Muscatine football MVP, voted Best High School Male Athlete 2011 by Muscatine Journal, WQAD Channel 8 winner of the Player of the Week Award all in his senior season. During his junior and senior seasons, his team qualified for the state football playoffs. Bohling rushed for 1,360 yards and 15 touchdowns during his senior season and is the school record holder in career rushing yards (2,461), career touchdowns (23), rushing yards in a season (1,360), rushing yards in a game (290), rushing touchdowns in a season (15), touchdowns in a game (4), touchdowns in a season (15) and rushing attempts in a game (35).
Kevin Camacho                   Offensive Lineman             6-3, 275                 Henderson, Nevada (Foothill HS)
Camacho started three seasons on the offensive line at Foothill High School and was a letterman each season. Camacho helped his team to the Sunrise region finals in 2011 and did not allow a sack in his senior season while also racking up 53 pancake blocks.
Jon Davis                              Defensive Back                   6-1, 180                 Webster City, Iowa (Webster City HS)
Davis is a multi-sport star as he started three years in football, basketball and baseball at Webster City High School. Individual honors for Davis include: 2010 and 2011 football All-District, 2010 and 2011 basketball All-Conference, 2011 All-Substate Team in basketball, 2010 and 2011 baseball All-Conference and he will play in the 2012 Shrine Bowl. He was part of the Webster City High School 2011 football team that broke school records for most points scored in a season (512), most offensive yards in a season (5,254) and most yards in a single game (638). During senior season, Davis played quarterback and defensive back and recorded 51 completions on 85 attempts for 1,004 yards and a school record 17 touchdowns while also rushing for 1,182 yards and 19 TDs on 128 rushing attempts. On the defensive side of the ball, he notched 23 solo tackles, 22 assisted tackles and three interceptions.
Tony Gbogbo                        Offensive Lineman             6-2, 300                 Sioux City, Iowa (Sioux City North HS)
Pronounced (Bo-bo) Tony was a three year starter in football and track and also played rugby. He was named First Team All-Missouri River Conference and Second Team All-Northwest Iowa in 2010 and 2011 while leading Sioux City North to the Class 4A playoffs during senior season. Gbogbo was credited with 37 pancakes during senior year.
Eric Lammers                     Tight End                               6-4, 230                 Bettendorf, Iowa (Assumption HS)
Lammers was a two year starter in football as a tight end at Assumption High School where he received honorable mention-MAC and MAC All-Academic in 2010 and was First Team All-MAC, honorable mention All-Area and MAC All-Academic in 2011. Helped his squad to the Iowa state football playoffs in 2010 and 2011 and recorded 14 receptions for 209 yards and three TDs in his senior year. Lammers also excelled in tennis where he is a four year starter and qualified for state during his sophomore and junior seasons (he still has his senior season to compete in tennis).                      

Colton McConnaha             Defensive Lineman            6-5, 245                 Muscatine, Iowa (Muscatine HS)
McConnaha was a two year starter and letter winner at Muscatine High School earning Second Team All-Mississippi Athletic Conference honors. During senior season he recorded 80 tackles with 12 tackles for loss and had 60 tackles in junior year with five tackles for loss. He helped team reach Iowa Class 4A playoffs as a junior and senior.
Maurice Morrison               Defensive Back                   5-11, 215               Vancouver, Washington (Skyview HS)
Morrison competed in both football and track at Skyview High School and was named All-League defensive back in 2010 and 2011 as well as All-Region defensive back in 2010 and 2011. He anchored a defense that won four consecutive league championships from 2008-2011. Morrison recorded eight interceptions in a season and notched 12 interceptions in his high school career. He was also recognized as an All-League 300 low hurdler in 2011.
Zach Osborn                        Quarterback                        6-1, 170                 Harlan, Iowa (Harlan Community HS)
Osborn is a multi-sport standout at Harlan Community High School where he started four years in golf, three years in basketball and two in football and baseball. Football accolades include: 2010 First Team All-District, 2011 First Team INA (Iowa Newspaper Association) All-State, 2011 All-District First Team, 2011 Academic All-Conference, 2011 SWI (Southwest Iowa) Football Player of the Year – Omaha World Hearld. In 2009, his football team went 14-0 and won the state championship and was a state football semi-finalist in 2011. During his senior season, Osborn completed 217 of the 366 passes he attempted for 3,303 yards and 33 touchdowns while also rushing 98 times for 293 yards and 10 TD's on the ground. He finished his Harlan career with 5,904 passing yards and 56 passing touchdowns. Osborn was also All-Conference in golf and basketball in 2011.
Justin Pierre                        Defensive Lineman            6-2, 260                 St. Petersburg, Florida (Lakewood HS)
Pierre was a two year starter on the defensive line for Lakewood High School where he was a four year letter winner and was voted Most Improved Player while averaging two sacks per game.
Nathan Schmadeke           Wide Receiver                     6-3, 180                 Grundy Center, Iowa (Grundy Center HS)
Schmadeke started three years at wide receiver at Grundy Center where he was honored with Second Team All-Conference during his sophomore season, First Team All-Conference and Second Team All-State during his junior season and First Team All-State and All-Conference Offensive MVP during his senior season. His team recorded a winning season and made the playoffs in 2011. Schmadeke's senior seasons stats are: 31 receptions for 468 yards (15.1 yards per catch) and six touchdowns,15 carries for 157 yards and two touchdowns, 32 solo tackles and 10 assisted tackles with eight interceptions, nine kick returns for 390 yards and two touchdowns and nine punt returns for 122 yards and one TD. He also started four years in track and two years in basketball.
Quinn Williams                    Wide Receiver                     6-1, 195                 Sioux City, Iowa (Sioux City North HS)
Williams was a two year starter at quarterback for Sioux City North High School and was named First Team All-Conference, Third Team All-State, Co-Captain and Player of the Week in 2011. He set school records in passing yards in a single season (1,167), total touchdowns in a season (24) and rushing attempts in a season (205) and was the first player in school history to rush and throw for over 1,000 yards in a season. During senior season he completed 80 of 164 passes for 1,167 yards and 12 touchdowns while rushing the ball 205 times for 1,223 yards and 12 TDs while leading the Stars to the Iowa Class 4A state playoffs.

Transfers

Charlie Davidson                Running Back                      6-1, 210                 Wheaton, Illinois (College of Dupage)
Davidson transfers to Wayne State after playing last season at College of Dupage where he was named All-Conference. While attending Mary D. Bradford High School in Kenosha, Wisconsin he started four years on the football team and was named All-Conference, All-Area, All-County and All-State. He will have two years of eligibility with the Wildcats.
Brody Rohach                      Quarterback                        6-5, 195                 Moorpark, California (University of San Diego)
Rohach transfers to the Wildcats after being at the University of San Diego for one and a half years where was recognized on the 2010 PFL All-Academic honor roll. Prior to USD, Rohach graduated from Moorpark High School in Moorpark, California where he started two years in both football and basketball and started one year in both track and volleyball. He was named to the Second Team All-Marmonte League in his junior and senior seasons. Rohach helped guide his team to the CIF final in his senior season and led his squad to the league championship with a 13-1 record during his junior year. During two seasons as quarterback, Rohach threw for 2,000 yards and 22 TDs through the air. He also received the Coaches Award in basketball and was named most improve in volleyball. He was born in Iowa City, Iowa and will have three years of eligibility with the Wildcats.
